Here's a question we are asked frequently:
I need to take an English language test as part of the university application process. Should I take the TOEFL or IELTS?
Depends. If you are applying to colleges in the US or Canada, we recommend the TOEFL iBT. The internet based TOEFL is widely accepted in North America, easy to schedule online, and electronically sends your scores to universities you choose. Although the IELTS is accepted by many colleges in North America, it's more commonly used in the UK system. Registration for the IELTS is usually in person, rather than online (although you can register online if you take the test through the British Council), and it can be difficult to get a seat for the academic test in Dubai. The IELTS is also a pencil and paer test, not computer based like the TOEFL. So your point? The TOEFL is more convenient, but the IELTS may be a better test for some people.
