A long, long time ago (4 years to be exact) we explained what was on the GED. While the information is still valid, we've decided to go a bit more in depth so you have all the information you need about the exam. This post covers 9 things you don't know about the GED in Dubai.
If you've been following our blog series on the GED in Dubai, you now know where to take the GED in the United Arab Emirates and exactly how to register online for the GED. The next obvious question is "What's on the GED in Dubai?"
#1 What is the GED?
The GED is an exam for adults who want to earn a high school equivalency diploma. Only adults that did not obtain a high school diploma are eligible to earn an equivalency diploma.
Although it is an American credential, the high school equivalency diploma obtained by passing the GED exam is a recognized credential throughout the world and allows students to apply for many universities in Dubai.
#2 Who makes the GED?
The American Council on Education makes the GED. The diploma for students taking the GED exam in Dubai is awarded through the District of Columbia (DC) Department of Education in the United States.
#3 What's on the GED?
Even though the GED launched a new version of the test, the one being offered in Dubai is the 2002 Series GED Test.
The GED is actually 5 separate tests. You can take the test one at a time and in any order you want. We'll let you know how each test is scored below.
#4 How is the GED scored?
Each test on the GED is scored from a 200 to 800.
#5 What is a good score?
Since the GED is pass/fail, a good score on the GED is the one that allows you to pass. To pass the GED, you need to score at 410 on each of the five tests and have an average score higher than 450. You must receive a score of 2 or higher (out of 4) on the essay to pass the Language Arts, Writing test. Your minimum total score from the 5 tests must be 2,250.
#6 What if I want to retake the exam?
If you don't score a 410 on any one test, you have 90 days before you can take the exam again. In the past, you had to take ALL 5 GED tests BEFORE you could retake any one exam.
#7 How do I register to take the GED in Dubai?
You have to register for the GED online. You can find a step-by-step guide to registering to take the GED in Dubai here.
#8 How much does it cost to take the GED in Dubai?
Each separate GED test (there are 5) costs US $50 (AED 183.50). If you want to take all 5 at once (although you don't have to) it will cost you US $250 (AED 917.50).
#9 Where do I take the GED in Dubai?
To take the GED in Dubai, you have to go to the official GED testing center at the Society of Engineers in Deira. You can find directions, a Google map, and metro instructions to the GED test center here. The GED is NOT offered online. Any website that says you can take the GED online is a SCAM. Do not give them your money!
